Evoking the massive physical forces involved at a microscopic atomic level, which are central to Joanne’s scientific work.
Talking about what she does, Joanne says, “I measure tiny amounts of chemical elements that form when cosmic rays bombard a rock’s surface and break apart atoms within it.”
Well that ignights all kinds of imagery! This incredible natural process, called cosmic ray spallation, is something I explore in many ways throughout this body of work.
